True to its European mission, the Palais des Beaux-Arts welcomes Changing States: Contemporary Irish Art & Francis Bacon’s Studio. The contemporary section showcases the reflections and innovations of a generation of artists who have made a significant contribution to artistic practice since 2000. The exhibition highlights the vitality of the visual arts in Ireland, bringing together an enlightening group of artists the links between local and universal experiences. Changing States also presents a series of objects and documents from the studio of Francis Bacon. Born in Ireland, Bacon was a privileged witness to the tumultuous political changes that rocked the 20th century. His sensitivity and his paintings were nourished by these violent experiences. The documents from his studio, from which he drew his inspiration, restore an original portrait of the artist. Photos of friends and lovers, books devoted to medicine, nature and sport mingle with classics and artist monographs as well as unfinished paintings. BOZAR has chosen to pay tribute to the genius of this artist and to the talent of the generation of Irish visual artists who followed him.
